Everyone loves a good smirk. Smirking gives off a sexy and devious vibe that works amazingly in many moments. It’s important to remember to use the word wisely. Smirks can be great, but be cautious with it. Here are some important things to remember about smirking.
1. Smirking is not a dialogue tag.
“I knew you’d come see me,” he smirked. Smirking is not speaking. Instead, try “I knew you’d come see me,” he said, with a devious smirk on his lips. It doesn’t even have to be that complicated though. You can simply write, “I knew you’d come to see me.” He smirked. Or He smirked. “I knew you’d come to see me.”
2. Girls can smirk too!
Of course we all love the smirking bad boy, but why not let a girl smirk too. If you’re feeling really rebellious, maybe you can have a female be a kickass and sexy, she can even be a little devious. That role is not just for men!
3. Don’t overuse it.
A little smirking is a great thing. A smirk in the right place can create a memorable moment in your story. Don’t overuse the smirk or it will lose its power.
4. Smirking doesn’t always mean romance.
I read somewhere that if you’re looking for the love interest in a book just wait for someone smirk and that’s them. People who aren’t a love interest can smirk. Some people are simply flirtatious. Also, there can be many other meanings behind a smirk.
